5% drop in numbers:

1127 in 2014

1071 in 2015

We need to do something!!

Grades A* 7.2%, A 12.9%, B 26.6%, C 26.3%, D 18.1%, E 7.9%, U 0.9%

FDF says ‘It is concerning to hear a subject that could support these pathways may no longer be available’

DfE says food technology does not fit under design and technology. Universities value sciences to get into food and nutrition courses.

My view – my A level Domestic Science was not considered acceptable in 1960s to get into Bristol University and I had to study Physics, chemistry and biology A level. The Domestic Science result did not matter!!

PERHAPS WE NEED TO WORK WITH SCIENCE SUBJECTS AND INFLUENCE THE APPLICATION OF SCIENCE TO FOOD STUDIES!

  1. My daughter has got into a Russell group uni this year with an A in Food Technology. They were quite happy to accept it. In fact said at Open day that Food manufacturers were wanting more students that did not have a too scientific background
