On Friday 16 January 2015 the DfE announced that the reform of GCSE Design and Technology will be delayed by a year.
This means that first teaching of the new GCSE will now start in September 2017, with the first award in 2019. As a result, existing GCSE Design and Technology specifications will continue to be available up to and including award in 2018.
The exception is Design and Technology Food which will be discontinued after the award in 2017.
GCSE Home Economics: Food & Nutrition and GCSE Catering (proposed to be discontinued) will be available for final award in summer 2017. Therefore centres may continue teaching GCSE Home Economics: Food & Nutrition and GCSE Catering from September 2015 with final certification 2017. (Or September 2016 if part of a 1 year programme)
GCSE Cooking (Food Preparation) and Nutrition will be available for first teaching in September 2016, first award summer 2018.
Specific reference to GCSE Hospitality, Home Economics: Textiles and or GCSE Home Economics: Child Development Child Development has not been made.
